Frequently Asked Questions

Is easy-on safe?

easy-on is solvent free, issocyanate free and a very low volatile organic compound (VOC) rating. Although the component parts of easy-on are hazard labelled the product becomes far safer once mixed.

Can I part mix a can?

Yes. easy-on can be part mixed using the ratio 5 parts resin to 1 part cure (5:1 by volume). The remaining, unmixed quantity can be used again up to 1 year later providing it is properly resealed.

Why is there such a big difference in coverage?

Coverage is dependent on surface texture and porosity. If you imagine flattening out all of the tiny folds in 1 square metre of brickwork we might actually find it has as much as 2 square metres of surface area.

What should I clean used brushes and rollers with?

We recommend you only use cheap, disposable brushes and rollers. easy-on is a non convertible coating and once it dries (cures) brushes and rollers are almost impossible to clean. The effort needed to clean a brush or roller to the level necessary is probably not worth your while.

What sort of roller should I use?

We recommend a 4” foam roller for application.

The easy-on surface has cured (dried) milky?

This is caused by water or moisture getting in to the easy-on film before it has had chance to fully cure. Substrate should contain less than 6% moisture.

My wall is still tacky / wet long after the 4 hour drying time is up.

easy-on cures through a polymeric reaction between its 2 component parts. In all cases this situation can be attributed to insufficient or non-existent proportions of cure being added to the resin.

How do I remove easy-on?

Fully cured easy-on is extremely hard to remove. The ideal solution would be through a shot or grit type blasting process or by using strong chemical paint strippers.

Can I overcoat easy-on?

Yes. To overcoat easy-on simply abrade the easy-on surface with a good quality sand or glass paper to provide a suitable key then overcoat with your chosen paint.

Can I use easy-on, on floors?

We do not recommend easy-on for use on floors.

Will anything clean off an easy-on surface?

Whilst we haven’t been able to find anything yet we can’t clean from an easy-on surface the methods of removal do sometimes vary. Most graffiti can be removed using mild and safe graffiti removers, which will not damage the easy-on surface. In worst-case scenarios it may be necessary to use stronger cleaners to remove very old or tough graffiti. If used topically these removers still should not damage the easy-on surface but if damage does occur to the closed film repair is simple. (see below)

How do I repair the easy-on coating should it become damaged?

Simply repair and repaint the damaged area of wall feathering back any edges then overcoat with easy-on, ensuring there is an overlap between the old easy-on and the new. In most cases the repair should be invisible.

Is easy-on available in a coloured or a matte finish?

Introducing pigment or matting agents to the easy-on formulation is detrimental to the coatings performance. Such agents sit within the easy-on film and are susceptible to re-staining. It is this action that leads to “shadowing” or “ghosting” you see in many other anti graffiti coatings once removal has been attempted.

What sort of paint should I use under easy-on?

easy-on can be applied over any type of paint although in our experience the very best results are obtained when easy-on is applied over Acrylic paints.

How do I remove the graffiti before applying easy-on?

We would always recommend you simply cover up soundly adhered graffiti with a good quality paint or stain blocking primer. If you must have a natural finish to your walls chemical free high-pressure water washing can produce good results and is preferable to chemical graffiti removal.

Will easy-on darken my walls?

easy-on will change the colour of some substrates. Before application you should ALWAYS be sure this colour change is acceptable as total removal is almost always impossible. The simplest way to simulate this colour change is to pour a cup of water over the surface you are proposing to coat. This is the colour your walls will remain once easy-on is applied.

Will easy-on resist X, Y or Z?

Whilst it is impossible to test every eventuality the answer to this question is normally a resounding YES! Over the years easy-on has continually surprised us with its seemingly limitless uses so if you have a problem you think easy-on may be able to help you with or an idea for this unique and amazing coating please let us know.
